A company founded in 2005

Ivar A. Ullebust founded Viking of Norway on 19 October 2005, bringing earlier experience from the Norwegian textile industry. The company is based in Oltedal, where its administrative surroundings connect with the area’s wool-industry history.

The founder’s earlier career should not be confused with the age of the brand. Viking of Norway’s own founding date is 2005. Likewise, the materials used in its finished clothing do not establish the composition of every yarn sold under Viking Garn.

Alpaca Storm and finer companion ranges

Alpaca Storm combines 40% superfine alpaca, 40% merino wool and 20% nylon. Alpaca Liten Storm uses the same blend in a finer yarn, with different length and recommended gauge. The word Liten therefore identifies a practical difference for knitting, rather than only a change of name or colour.

The official information states that Alpaca Liten Storm is produced in Peru. This shows why a Norwegian company name should not be read as a manufacturing-country statement for the entire collection. Brand location, fibre origin and yarn production are separate pieces of information.

Viking patterns may also combine yarns. A sweater using Alpaca Storm together with Kid Silk needs the two strands assessed as one fabric when choosing replacements. Matching the main yarn’s gauge on its own will not reproduce the combined strand’s surface or thickness.

Use the complete yarn name and the pattern’s actual strand instructions. Then compare blend, total length and washed gauge. Similar names within the Viking collection can make useful starting points for a search, but they do not make the yarns interchangeable.
