A brand now within the Yarnspirations family

Red Heart’s corporate history connects with Coats & Clark. Spinrite acquired the North American Coats & Clark business in 2019, adding Red Heart to its brand portfolio. Today, Yarnspirations provides an official home for Red Heart yarn information and patterns.

For makers, that history is most useful when tracing an older pattern or label. Product names may survive a change of ownership, but an old colour number, ball size or printed specification should still be checked against the particular version of the yarn you have.

Super Saver and the importance of colour variants

Super Saver is listed as a medium, category 4 worsted-weight yarn. The official specifications identify solids, prints, variegated shades and stripes as 100% acrylic, while flecks include a small proportion of other fibres. Ball weights and lengths also differ between colour types. This is a useful reminder that even one range name can contain variations that affect project calculations.

For a multicolour blanket, compare available length in each chosen colour rather than simply buying an equal number of balls. A flecked shade may also give a different visual surface from a solid, even when both belong to Super Saver.

When finding a Red Heart alternative, match the actual yarn and its care instructions. The brand name does not identify one fibre or thickness, and the category number is only a starting point. A sample in the project’s stitch pattern will show whether another yarn gives the density, drape and definition you want.
